Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has issued a call to Ijaw individuals living abroad, urging them to collaborate with the government to foster development in their home state, which is uniquely the only area in Nigeria predominantly inhabited by the Ijaw ethnic group.

In his New Year address, Governor Diri emphasized his commitment to attracting investments from both domestic and international sources. He extended an invitation to Bayelsans and Ijaw investors around the globe to partner with the state in exploiting the numerous opportunities available for growth and development.

The governor highlighted Bayelsa as a safe and inviting location, expressing the state’s readiness to assist professionals and businesses aiming for expansion and success. As the new year begins, Diri conveyed a sense of optimism and enthusiasm regarding potential progress for the state.

He encouraged Ijaw people in the diaspora to redirect their focus towards their homeland, assuring them of Bayelsa’s suitability as a thriving environment for professionals and entrepreneurs, as well as a place for relaxation and enjoyment.

Acknowledging the challenges faced in the previous year, particularly due to economic difficulties and fluctuating currency values impacting many citizens, Diri remains hopeful and is determined to work collaboratively to unlock the vast potential of Bayelsa State.

The governor emphasized the importance of prudent resource management and strategic spending, which have led to significant advancements in legacy projects, particularly in enhancing infrastructure that unlocks the potential of the Atlantic Ocean and boosts the Blue Economy. He shared that the ongoing construction and rehabilitation of access and internal roads have greatly improved connectivity and accessibility in the state capital.

As part of his administration’s rebranded Assured Prosperity Agenda, the government is excited to announce additional signature projects aimed at fostering growth across various sectors, including the upcoming launch of “The Prosperity Estates.” This innovative housing initiative is set to deliver 1,000 affordable homes in both the state capital and local government areas, representing a major leap toward achieving greater housing accessibility and affordability for residents.

In terms of power supply, the governor outlined the administration’s commitment to establishing a sustainable and independent energy framework, with plans for the procurement and installation of a 60-megawatt gas turbine in the near future. He also expressed appreciation for the community’s patience during the recent four-month power outage.

Addressing security concerns, the governor reiterated that ensuring safety is a primary focus of his administration. To enhance public safety, new Closed Circuit Cameras (CCTV) will be installed, and existing systems around the capital will be upgraded, reinforcing the state’s commitment to becoming one of the safest in Nigeria.

The ongoing revitalization extends to educational institutions and healthcare facilities, which are receiving critical investment to enhance their capabilities. The governor reaffirmed plans for constructing an ultra-modern stadium in Yenagoa, designed to support and inspire talented athletes in the community.

The governor is dedicated to promoting sustainable food production in the agricultural sector by providing farmers with comprehensive support. This assistance includes access to modern equipment, expert advice, and high-quality seedlings. A promising collaboration with the Republic of South Korea has set the stage for impactful initiatives, such as training programs for local farmers focused on modern rice cultivation and the establishment of advanced rice processing mills at the School-to-Land farm in Yenagoa. These efforts are in line with the broader agricultural and food security agenda, particularly the “Produce and Consume” initiative, which emphasizes the importance of local production and consumption for a sustainable future.
