The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Cross River has vowed to takeover the Senatorial and House of Representatives seats in the North Senatorial District from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

At a press conference on Wednesday in Calabar, Mr. Alphonsus Eba, the state chairman of the APC, announced this ambitious plan. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the current Senate seat for the district is held by Sen. Jarigbe Jarigbe of PDP.

Currently, Rep. Akpanke from the PDP represents the Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, while Rep. Godwin Odey from the APC serves the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency. Eba has urged APC members in various roles to pursue excellence in their duties and to actively support Governor Bassey Out’s re-election efforts.

Also, he clarified that the party is not connected to a petition purportedly written by a legal expert under the name of Concerned Stakeholders of APC in the Northern Senatorial District, which targets Senator Jarigbe. “We want to make it clear that the petition concerning the N12.5 billion constituency fund does not come from our party, and we fully disassociate ourselves from it.”

I want to make it clear to everyone in this party: no one should hire a lawyer on behalf of our party in a way that implies the party’s approval, he said. Eba pointed out that all party members have the right to create support groups to strengthen the party.

However, he stressed that these groups need to be recognized and registered with the APC. He noted that groups like the Northern Coalition, Centricle, and the Southern Summit are allowed to function, but they must follow the party’s rules. The APC chairman also stressed the need for a well-defined structure and leadership to prevent any impression of disorganization.
