The lifeless remains of Elizabeth Awhobiwom Ukah, a 23-year-old student from the Federal Nursing Science College in Calabar, Cross River, were discovered in a drainage.

This tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 19th, 2025, on Musaha Umoh Okon Street in the Ekpo Abasi area of Calabar South Local Government.

Initially unrecognized, the body was reported to the authorities by local residents who noticed it lying face down. Upon their arrival, officers from the Nigeria Police Force turned the body over to examine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate death.

Agba Jalingo, a prominent journalist from Cross River Watch, shared on Facebook that Elizabeth passed away on Wednesday, April 23. It’s believed she was swept away by floodwaters while returning home after attending Good Friday mass and participating in the Stations of the Cross at Holy Family Catholic Church in Big-Qua Town, near Eastern Secondary School and Marian Market in Calabar. Ukah hailed from Ohong community in the Obudu Local Government Area.
