Tinubu splashes $100,000 on each Super Falcons player for WAFCON victory, confers National Honours

President Bola Tinubu has given the Super Falcons the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) to celebrate their win at the 2023 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). This award shows how important their achievement is to many Nigerians.

At the ceremony, President Tinubu shared that each of the 24 players who took part in the tournament would get a financial reward of the naira equivalent of $100,000. The technical team, which has 11 members, will each receive the naira equivalent of $50,000 to honor their role in the team’s success.

Moreover, the president announced that every player would also get a three-bedroom apartment as part of their reward. This plan is meant to give the players long-term support and stability.

While accepting the awards for the team, the president showed appreciation and stressed how important their commitment to Nigerian sports is. He said, “I have received this trophy on behalf of all Nigerians, and I say to you: thank you for your dedication and passion. On behalf of a grateful nation, I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).”

The president also highlighted how important this accomplishment is. He stated, “Once again, I congratulate you and will keep praying for you.” With this, Nigeria’s spirit is unyielding and will never die.”.
