Nigerian-born Beninese international Razak Omotoyossi has sadly passed away at the age of 39, as confirmed by recent reports. Omotoyossi, who was born in Nigeria, represented Benin on the international stage, becoming one of the nation’s most celebrated football icons over the years. He earned 55 caps and found the back of the net 21 times for the Squirrels, securing his place among their all-time leading goal scorers.

Omotoyossi made a significant contribution during the qualification rounds for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He showed his impact in the tournament by scoring all four goals in Benin’s impressive 4-1 win over Togo.

His incredible performance in the qualifiers earned him an award in the top-scoring chart of the tournament, alongside the famous Samuel Eto’o from Cameroon.

Besides his success on the international stage, Omotoyossi had a globe-spanning career. He began his professional career in Sweden with Helsingborgs IF, making a strong impression as he participated in the renowned UEFA Champions League. After his time in Sweden, he went to France, where he played for FC Metz.

Throughout his career, he also had stints in other footballing countries, showcasing his versatility and talent in Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
