Agents from the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have successfully taken into custody 92 people who are suspected of being involved in internet fraud in Edo State.

The arrests took place during a carefully organized sting operation on Monday, September 29, 2025, at different spots around Benin City, as stated in an official announcement from the commission.

Their arrest was based on credible intelligence about their suspected involvement in computer related crimes. All the lawful procedures of arrest were followed in the course of the arrest

In addition to the suspects, law enforcement officials confiscated 11 vehicles and several mobile devices, which are thought to have been important in their fraudulent activities.

Initial investigations carried out by the commission have revealed links between the suspects and several advanced online scams that have led to many people being tricked.

As the investigation progresses, the Commission plans to file charges against the suspects in court once all investigations are fully completed, demonstrating its commitment to combating financial crimes and protecting the public from online fraud.
