**ABUJA**— In anticipation of the 2027 general elections, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde have called upon stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unite in the revitalization of the party and the improvement of Nigeria. These remarks were made during the inauguration and unveiling of the Board of Governors of the Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) in Abuja. During his address, Governor Makinde noted that the Nigerian populace has become increasingly aware of the significant differences between the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) concerning national governance. He stated, “As we approach 2027, it is incumbent upon the PDP to offer genuine hope for Nigeria. Through the revitalization of the PDI, we are providing that hope to our citizens. Our nation requires clear direction, and the PDP must serve as an ideological foundation for the people.” Governor Makinde acknowledged the historical significance of the PDI, referencing its establishment as articulated by former Governor Okwesilieze Nwodo and others. He posed a critical question for all politicians: “What legacy do you wish to leave behind?” He emphasized that this question should resonate with all individuals who have had the opportunity to serve in Nigeria, as leaders will inevitably transition in and out of office. He further elaborated, “The political landscape is dynamic; however, individuals need to be remembered for their contributions. The inauguration of the PDI Board of Governors, along with the unveiling of the PDI roadmap by Director General Dr. Edward, represents a significant step towards clarifying the party’s ideological stance and reinforcing its legacy.” Governor Makinde expressed his gratitude, stating, “Since 2019, I have reaped the benefits of the PDP. I wish to extend my sincere thanks to our esteemed party and all stakeholders present today for granting me the privilege of receiving consecutive mandates under this affiliation. I assure you that, having drawn from this well, I will uphold the integrity of the party upon my departure from office.” He underscored the importance of youth engagement, asserting that the PDP is the only political party in Nigeria that has genuinely facilitated the involvement of young individuals in its political framework. He expressed confidence that the PDI would further expand this engagement. “I may be aging, yet I maintain a youthful spirit in heart, mind, and body. The PDP is committed to taking all necessary measures to rectify the issues facing Nigeria. By addressing the challenges within the PDP, we will subsequently address the issues confronting Nigeria. This approach will establish a foundation for genuine hope among the Nigerian populace.” **Rebuilding the PDP Ahead of 2027—Saraki** In alignment with this sentiment, Senator Saraki remarked, “The strength of our party lies in its foundational ideas, philosophies, and policies. We must shift our focus from personal ambitions to the collective growth of our party. Without a robust party, individual ambitions become futile; without foundational ideas, a strong party cannot exist. This is the essence of our venture, and it is of paramount importance.” He urged party members to refrain from discussing individual candidacies, whether for local council positions, gubernatorial offices, or the presidency in the upcoming 2027 elections.
