Due to an injury, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal will not play against Atletico Madrid.

Due to an ankle ligament injury sustained in the defeat to Leganés, Barcelona striker Lamine Yamal will miss Saturday’s crucial match against Atletico Madrid and maybe a Clásico against Real Madrid in the Spanish Supercopa final. Yamal might be sidelined for up to four weeks.
Despite suffering the injury in the first half of Sunday’s shocking loss, the 17-year-old continued to play until the 75th minute, at which point Gavi took his place.

He missed three Barça games and two with Spain due to the same ankle injury he sustained in the victory against Red Star Belgrade on November 6; he didn’t play again until November 30 against Las Palmas.

“Tests carried out on Monday have revealed Yamal has an injury to a ligament in the ankle,” the Catalan club confirmed in a statement. “He is expected to be out for three to four weeks.”

Yamal will consequently be absent from Barça’s match against Atlético at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday. Even though Atletico has a game in hand, the two teams enter that match tied for the most points in La Liga.

Following that, La Liga takes a winter break. Barça won’t play again until January 4, when they play fourth-tier Barbastro in the Copa del Rey.

On January 8, they will play Athletic Club in the semifinal of the Spanish Supercopa in Saudi Arabia. Yamal is not expected to play in the Middle East.
Although the exact date of the match has not yet been set, Barça won’t play in La Liga again until they visit Getafe the weekend beginning January 18.
Since Hansi Flick took over at the beginning of the season, Yamal has been one of Barça’s most notable players. He helped Spain win the European Championship last summer.

In 21 games in all competitions, the winger has contributed to a successful attack with Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, scoring six goals and setting up eleven more.
