Suspected Transformer Vandal Electrocuted In Enugu

Table of Content

On Monday night, a tragic event occurred in Obukpa, located in the Nsukka Local Government Area, which resulted in the electrocution of a man suspected of vandalizing a transformer. The individual suffered a horrific fate while attempting to illegally steal shielded cables from Ihe Primary School, cables belonging to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

Eyewitnesses reported that the man sustained severe burns, and his lifeless body was discovered near the transformer he had targeted. It is believed he was part of a larger group that arrived at the scene in a mini-bus with the registration number BLF-203XA. The operation to pilfer the cables took a deadly turn, leading to the man’s electrocution. Following the incident, his accomplices quickly abandoned both the scene and the vehicle, fleeing before authorities could arrive.

In a somewhat fortunate turn of events, local residents searching through the mini-bus found an identity card believed to belong to the deceased. This discovery could be crucial in identifying him and tracing the other individuals involved in the attempted theft. The incident highlights the escalating issue of vandalism against public utilities in the area, prompting local authorities, alongside the EEDC, to stress the urgent need for improved security measures. They are now focused on bolstering safety protocols around electrical installations and addressing the community’s growing concerns regarding the protection of public property and overall safety.
