Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed his willingness to collaborate with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, to enhance governance for the benefit of Nigerians. During a consultation visit from Mr. Obi at the state’s Presidential Lodge on Thursday, Mr. Mohammed emphasized their shared commitment to tackling issues such as poverty and crime, highlighting that their partnership would rise above political, religious, and ethnic divisions. He remarked, “We engaged in discussions about the challenges faced by each state, and I truly appreciate

Mr. Obi’s role as the leader of the opposition in Nigeria. It’s important to clarify for those who may doubt our intentions that I am fully prepared to work alongside Peter Obi. Together, we will unite our efforts to promote good governance, provide a robust opposition grounded in knowledge and vision, and strive to restore our nation. Our collaboration sends a powerful message that will resonate widely, as it is supported by our fellow PDP governors. This initiative transcends party lines, regions, and religions, as we come together for a common purpose.

Mr. Obi explained that he chose to meet with Mr. Mohammed to talk about Nigeria’s challenges and seek his advice, given that he is the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and an important figure in Nigeria’s current political landscape. He mentioned, “This is simply a meeting for consultation and discussion that will continue as we consider the future of our country. We need to address the issues in the North. I informed the governor today that the North is essential for making progress in Nigeria. There is widespread poverty in the country. We must tackle poverty first; only then can we address issues related to crime.”

Mr Obi added that the country needed to invest hugely in critical areas to pull people out of poverty so as to reduce criminality in society.

The closed-door meeting between the duo was for more than three hours before they addressed the press.
