Alphonso Davies signs contract extension with Bayern Munich until 2030.

Alphonso Davies has officially signed a new contract with Bayern Munich, as announced by the Bundesliga club on Tuesday, effectively ending Real Madrid’s extended interest in the player. His new contract will keep him at Bayern until the end of the 2029-30 season, potentially marking an 11-year tenure with the club if he fulfills the term.
In a statement, Davies expressed his satisfaction with the contract extension, saying, “I am very happy to have extended my contract at this great club. I came to FC Bayern when I was 18 and just wanted to learn as much as possible every day to become one of the best in my position. Now I’m looking forward to another five years together. I’ve already achieved a lot here, but there’s more to come.”

Prior to this agreement, Real Madrid had been pursuing the Canadian international, whose previous contract was set to expire in June 2025. The club had shown interest in acquiring Davies, contingent upon reaching a fee agreement with Bayern Munich. When that transfer did not materialize, Madrid maintained their desire to sign Davies on a free transfer this summer as part of a defensive restructuring that may also include Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Bayern Munich took action to keep Alphonso Davies by offering him a better contract to ensure he stays with the team for the long run. Christoph Freund, the club’s sporting director, mentioned, “Alphonso Davies is now one of the top players in the world in his position and has caught the attention of many other teams. His desire to remain with us highlights Bayern’s strong reputation in international football and shows that he has found a sporting home in Munich.”

Ultimately, Davies decided to remain with the German side last month while he was still weighing his alternatives.
Davies has made 16 appearances for Bayern in the Bundesliga this season under coach Vincent Kompany, scoring once as the team sit top of the league table.

Since moving to Bayern Munich from the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019, he has established himself as one of the best left-sided players in soccer. Real Madrid is aiming to improve their left-back position due to some concerns about how well Ferland Mendy and Fran García have been performing.

In recent seasons, the La Liga giant have repeatedly signed outstanding players on free transfers, including as Kylian Mbappé in 2024, Antonio Rüdiger in 2022, and David Alaba in 2021.
