The Labour Party has criticized the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) for trying to undermine the party’s national leadership, which is headed by chairman Barr Julius Abure.
Obiora Ifoh, the national publicity secretary of the Labour Party, made this statement in response to a press conference led by Prof Theophilus Ndubaku, who is the chairman of the LP Transition Committee, along with others. Ifoh claimed that the conference aimed to discredit the Labour Party’s leadership and mislead the public, similar to previous attempts. He pointed out that the claims made during the conference are false, deceptive, and a deliberate effort to damage Barrister Julius Abure’s reputation, the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
Ifoh stated, “The forensic report and the police investigation have clearly shown that there was no forgery. The file sent to the Attorney General has been returned to the police because the forensic report cleared the four individuals involved. This shows that there is no problem to resolve, something Professor Ndubaku and his colleagues fully understand.
“It is completely absurd for anyone to expect an ultimatum from the Attorney General about a case that doesn’t exist. Mr. Ndubaku and his team are behaving unethically, taking every opportunity to harm the party’s reputation. The public is aware of their rascality.
Moreover, it’s widely acknowledged that some people, like Ndubaku, who are aggressively seeking to lead the party, aren’t even members of it. He emphasized that, based on the party’s founding rules, the NLC lacks the authority to establish the Political Commission. This has been confirmed by messages from INEC, the Ministry of Labour, and other quarters have pointed to these fact.
“Furthermore, the last time I checked, during their recent NEC meeting, the NLC leadership formed a committee to explore alliances with other political parties in preparation for the 2027 general election. Ndubaku and his associates seem unaware that the group that established his Transition Committee has already moved on. So, who are they actually representing?
“I genuinely advise Mr. Ndubaku and his companions to seek alternative employment. The Labour Party operates differently from other political entities. We have demonstrated that we are a strong and purposeful organization dedicated to the greater good of Nigeria.
“Those men must be mistaken if they believe they can take over the Labour Party for their own selfish interests. The Labour Party is not open to that, and I urge them to find respectable work instead. No amount of pressure, intimidation, or misinformation will compel the leadership to relinquish control of the party to them.
We have noticed that Mr. Ndubaku and his associates tend to reappear from their inactivity when a major election is near. Nigerians may recall the events of 2024, leading up to the Ondo state governorship election, when Ndubaku and his partners took advantage of vulnerable candidates by fraudulently selling them nomination forms and promising them party endorsements. What has happened to the large amounts of money they deceitfully collected from these candidates? They are at it again. As the Anambra state governorship election process begins, they are likely to target unsuspecting candidates. We want to warn Nigerians about this new political scam and encourage everyone to stay alert against such individuals. We also call on security agencies to investigate these people before this type of fraud can take hold.
Lastly, we have noticed that Mr. Ndubaku continues to misuse the official Letterhead of the Labour Party for various correspondences, some of which are fraudulent. We will be formally reporting this matter to the security agencies to protect the Labour Party from these disruptive elements that refuse to allow harmony within our organization. Lawlessness is not acceptable and must be addressed.
