APC chieftain decries poor power supply, seeks Tinubu’s intervention

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has expressed concern over the worsening power supply in the country.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, described the current power supply problems as a major source of frustration for many Nigerians and a major obstacle to the government’s efforts to improve electricity services.

He stressed that, despite many promises and proposed improvements from those in charge of the power sector, reality for citizens has become a nightmare.

Oyintiloye urged President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action to resolve this crisis and ease the difficulties people face in the country. He highlighted how the lack of reliable electricity is hurting small businesses, larger companies, and everyday families.

The situation is particularly bad right now as the country is experiencing a severe heatwave, making the absence of electricity for cooling unbearable for many households.

He called on the President to form a group to investigate why the national grid fails so often and why electricity supply continues to be poor, especially given the large amounts of money that have been put into the power sector.

“The electricity situation in Nigeria is critical and getting worse,” he said. “Many small businesses and large companies are struggling, while most families barely get three hours of electricity a day to meet their basic needs.”

He pointed out that despite numerous attempts at reform, the national grid is still breaking down regularly. “This crisis is made worse by a shortage of gas, poor power lines, and a lack of investment in the power system. The people of Nigeria are suffering,” he stated.

A leader from the APC party has called on the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and his team to take immediate action to address the ongoing electricity issues in the country.

“Many people across Nigeria have been peacefully protesting because of the unreliable power supply. I urge the President to step in before these peaceful protests escalate into something more serious,” he stated.

“It’s crucial to resolve this situation quickly to avoid any embarrassment for our nation.”

He emphasized that Nigerians deserve to know whether these power problems are due to faults in the system or deliberate interference. Reliable electricity is vital for families and businesses to thrive.

“Since the start of the year, we have not had consistent power despite previous promises and significant investments in the power sector,” he added.

“Nigerians are already dealing with many challenges, and poor power supply should not be another burden. Rising fuel prices have made it tough for people who rely on generators to cope,” he explained.

Despite these issues, he commended the President for the ongoing efforts to improve various sectors, but he stressed the importance of a thorough investigation into the power sector to find a solution.
