At least four killed, including one child, in Russian strikes on Ukraine

Four people, including a young child, tragically lost their lives due to Russian attacks in Kyiv and surrounding areas, as local officials reported on Saturday. This tragedy comes after Ukraine carried out a successful operation targeting an oil refinery in Russia.

Residents in these regions frequently face drone and missile strikes, and Kyiv’s air defense systems are struggling to keep up amid the ongoing invasion by Russia, which has now lasted for four years. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s efforts to strike Russian oil facilities have created fuel shortages and heightened anxiety among the Russian people.

In a heartbreaking incident, two grandparents and their 3-year-old grandson were killed when multiple Russian drones destroyed their home in the Brovary district, located northeast of Kyiv, early Saturday morning. Local officials stated that three other family members and a neighbor who tried to help were hospitalized. The attack left their house in ruins and damaged surrounding buildings and vehicles.

In Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that another person had died due to injuries caused by a missile strike targeting civilian areas.

According to its daily update, Ukraine’s air force managed to shoot down 135 out of 151 drones launched by Russia overnight. The attack also included six ballistic missiles and various guided missiles.

Despite claims that its military operations focus only on military targets, Russia has repeatedly targeted civilian areas in Ukraine. Moscow is capitalizing on Ukraine’s significant lack of air defense systems, especially the U.S.-manufactured Patriot missiles, which are uniquely equipped to effectively intercept ballistic missiles.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has called on other countries, especially the United States, to send more ammunition due to shortages caused by ongoing conflicts with Iran. If that support isn’t possible, he is exploring options for producing ammunition in Ukraine or getting permission from Elon Musk to use his Starlink satellite system to help target Russian missile launchers.

In response to recent attacks, Zelenskyy took to social media to urge stronger sanctions aimed at stopping the production of ballistic missiles. He also requested more support for missile defense systems to protect against these threats.
