Brighton ends Arsenal’s unbeaten run as champions suffer their first loss

Reigning Premier League champions Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the 2026/27 season after a shock 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

The Gunners came into the game as league leaders with a perfect record – four wins from four in the league and seven wins from seven in all competitions – but were stunned by Fabian Hurzeler’s side.

Brighton, who are the Premier League’s top scorers this season with 13 goals in their opening four games, took control early and never let go.

The defeat ends Arsenal’s unbeaten start to their title defence and lifts Brighton to within two points of the top of the table.

The Seagulls had already shown their credentials this season with big wins over Aston Villa 4-0 and Coventry City 5-0, and a famous Carabao Cup comeback win at Manchester United.
