Defence minister orders troops to shoot bandits on sight

Nigeria’s Defence Minister, General Christopher Musa (retired), has directed security forces to take strong action against armed criminals involved in terrorism and banditry. He warned that any officer who hesitates to act will be viewed as supporting these criminals.

Musa delivered this message on Wednesday in Sokoto during the launch of new security resources provided by the Sokoto State Government. This event also marked the beginning of a security program worth ₦27.6 billion aimed at improving the fight against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.

In his address to the troops, the Defence Minister stressed the importance of quick action when encountering terrorists or bandits. He stated, “Once you are deployed, don’t wait for orders from anyone before confronting a bandit or terrorist.”

He added, “Anyone who delays in taking action while waiting for permission will be treated as a bandit. This is our clear instruction.”

The newly obtained resources include armored vehicles, tactical trucks, and 300 motorcycles, all designed to enhance the ability to monitor and respond quickly in areas at risk of violence.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu described this acquisition as one of the largest investments the state has made in security. He believes it will significantly improve the effectiveness of security agencies to safeguard lives and property.

He said security is crucial for economic growth and sustainable development. He mentioned that the government will keep funding projects that support the Federal Government’s aim of achieving peace.

Aliyu also expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Armed Forces, and various security agencies for their ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity. As a gesture of respect, he named a significant road in Sokoto City after General Christopher Musa, the Defence Minister.

In response, General Musa commended the Sokoto State Government for its strong commitment to security. He mentioned that this dedication reflects good leadership and a promise to protect the public. He encouraged everyone to keep sharing valuable information with security agencies and reassured Nigerians that the Armed Forces are committed to dismantling criminal groups and establishing lasting peace in the country.
