The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is stepping up its efforts to promote safety, the Easter Mega Rally in Abuja, Deputy Corps Public Education Officer Mr. Ohaeri Osondu shared the organization’s goal of reducing the roads, especially for drivers of commercial vehicles. They are urging everyone to follow safety rules and to avoid using old or poor-quality tyres.
During a special event called the Easter Mega Rally in Abuja, Deputy Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Ohaeri Osondu, shared the organization’s goal to reduce traffic accidents during the Easter holiday and beyond.
Osondu explained that the rally aims to raise awareness about safe driving habits and responsible use of roads. He expressed his worries about the increase in dangerous driving behaviors, which often come from careless habits, ignoring traffic laws, and not properly maintaining vehicles.
He pointed out that many accidents could be avoided if drivers paid more attention to safety rules and took care of their vehicles. A major concern he highlighted is the danger of using worn-out or low-quality tyres, which can lead to tyre blowouts, loss of control, and serious crashes.
The theme of the Easter Mega Rally is “Drive Responsibly, Celebrate Peaceful Easter 2026 Road Safety Awareness.” This event is part of a larger effort across the country to teach road users about the importance of following traffic laws to stay safe.
Osondu said that this campaign is being held nationwide to reach as many people as possible, especially during busy holiday times.
The discussions at the rally also pointed out several risky behaviors that can lead to accidents, such as using mobile phones while driving, switching lanes without signaling, carrying too much weight in vehicles, speeding, and drinking alcohol.
The FRSC official also appealed to transport union leaders and fleet operators to enforce safety compliance among their members, including routine vehicle checks, and strict adherence to passenger and load limits.
The FRSC official called on leaders of transport unions and fleet operators to take the initiative in promoting safety within their teams. He highlighted that regular vehicle inspections and adhering to rules about how many passengers and how much cargo can be transported are essential steps to ensure safety.
“Passengers, you play a crucial role in road safety!” he said, urging them to speak up if they witness any unsafe driving. Reporting drivers who violate safety rules is not just a good practice; it’s vital for everyone’s well-being.
He assured that the FRSC is dedicated to raising public awareness, improving enforcement of safety regulations, and collaborating with key stakeholders in the transportation sector. Their aim is to significantly reduce road accidents and enhance traffic management across the country.
The official reinforced the mission of the corps to protect lives on the roads, passionately urging all road users to adopt a safety-first attitude.
“By spreading awareness and following safety rules, we can help minimize road accidents and boost the country’s productivity, making it easier for people and goods to travel safely,” he noted.
Osondu further reaffirmed that the FRSC is focused on making our roads safer, especially during busy periods like Easter when road accidents are more common. Let’s come together for safer journeys.
