A serious accident almost occurred early Friday morning when a large commercial bus, known locally as a “Molue,” was involved in a crash in the Ahmadiyya area of Lagos, while heading towards Abule-Egba. Many passengers on the bus were hurt, which led to a quick response from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). Their officials reported that the accident caused major traffic delays in the area.

Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, said that the crash was caused by the driver speeding and being impatient. He explained that the driver lost control of the bus while trying to avoid hitting another bus and pedestrians waiting for transport. In a sudden move, the driver swerved and crashed into the median on the highway, causing the bus to overturn. Several passengers were injured, and some managed to escape through the windows.

LASTMA officials quickly arrived at the scene, helping to rescue those injured. Among the injured was the bus driver, who suffered a broken arm. All the victims were swiftly helped by medical personnel and taken to the General Hospital at Ile-Epo for urgent care.

To ease the traffic and ensure everyone’s safety, LASTMA sent a team to manage the situation and remove the overturned bus. Police officers from the Meiran Police Division also provided security to ensure the rescue operation went smoothly.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy for the injured passengers and wished them a quick recovery. He stressed the importance of obeying traffic rules, especially speed limits, set by the Lagos State Government. He also urged all drivers, both commercial and private, to keep their vehicles well-maintained to help prevent such accidents.
