As the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election draws near, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in the State has urged politicians to partake in responsible politics and campaigns focused on issues, devoid of bitterness, deceit, and blackmail.

At a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the organization’s chairman, Pastor Victor Akinola, remarked that political parties and their candidates are welcome to hold primaries that will produce individuals ready to offer better governance options for the state. Nevertheless, he warned against “resorting to deliberate falsehoods and claims without substantial proof.”

The CNPP has harshly criticized a recent press conference by supporters of the political group MEGA, calling it a “fabrication of lies, a misinformation, a form of blackmail, and a serious misrepresentation of the truth in Ekiti State.”

The CNPP stated, “We view this as an attempt to distract a competent Governor, His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who has received recognition both in Nigeria and globally for his efforts in transforming the fortunes of Ekiti, as evidenced by clear proof.

“When falsehoods, lies, half-truths, and misrepresentations are permitted to go unchallenged, there is a danger that they may be accepted as truth by unsuspecting members of the public, who consume news through various channels including print media, electronic media, the internet, and social media platforms.

It is our responsibility to counter the misleading information presented by Abimbola Olawumi, Motunde Fajuyi, and Gbenga Babawibe during their MEGA-themed news conference.

These people do not reside in Ekiti, which makes them disconnected from the real circumstances here. This distance is precisely why they have chosen to remain outside and criticize their state. Also, we have reliable information suggesting that they are receiving financial support from politicians.
