Everton vs Liverpool: David Moyes lauds Arne Slot ahead of derby

Everton’s manager, David Moyes, has spoken highly of Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, but he is encouraging his team to put on a spectacular performance during their upcoming match against their local rivals in the Merseyside derby this Wednesday night.

This match will be significant as it will be the last time both teams play at Everton’s current home, Goodison Park, before the club moves to a new stadium next season. Currently, Liverpool is leading the Premier League, sitting six points ahead and having an extra game to play. In contrast, Everton is struggling at 16th place in the standings.

Despite the challenges, Everton managed to win this match 2-0 last season, and Moyes is hopeful that the support from their fans at Goodison will help his team secure a positive result on Wednesday.

“It’s been some time since my last Merseyside derby, and I can confidently say these matches are always challenging. Liverpool is a formidable opponent, without a doubt. Playing at Goodison Park has always provided a sense of comfort, thanks to our incredible supporters, and I expect nothing less this time around.

We are determined to secure a victory. Let’s be clear: our primary objective is to earn points to ensure our place in the Premier League. This is a significant match, and I’m eager for it. I trust that the players will be fully prepared for the challenge ahead.”

The match was originally scheduled to occur in December; however, it was postponed due to the effects of Storm Darragh. Subsequently, David Moyes has taken over the managerial position from Sean Dyche, returning to the club where he previously served for over a decade from 2002 to 2013.

Moyes stated, “I believe that the gap between the two teams is bigger than it has been in a considerable period.” He emphasized his responsibility to narrow this gap and to bring his club closer in performance to their competitor. He noted that “Liverpool serves as a valuable benchmark, as competing above Liverpool typically correlates with winning the league.”

“They had an awesome coach in Jürgen Klopp who turned Liverpool into a powerhouse for a long time. You could see how often they were battling it out with Manchester City for trophies.
“I think a lot of people would be surprised at how well Arne Slot has done taking over from Jürgen. He has impressed everyone. It’s not easy for me to say that since I’m sitting here, but he’s made a real impact. Everything’s been running smoothly, and he’s got the team playing well.”
When talking about it possibly being the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, Moyes mentioned: “Goodison is always a tough, intimidating place to be. It’s not easy to play there.”

“As the manager, I’ve been fortunate to experience some truly unforgettable nights at this club, and I’m hopeful that there are more thrilling moments awaiting us as the season progresses. The supporters have always been the heartbeat of our team. I know they’ve faced challenges recently, but I believe they can start to sense a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

With only a handful of matches remaining, I fully appreciate how everyone in the stadium is committed to creating an unforgettable atmosphere for all those who come to watch our beloved game. It’s our goal to deliver an exceptional performance at Goodison Park, one that captivates our fans and showcases the beautiful game at its best.”
