Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the ex-coach of Manchester United, is not happy about the club’s decision to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli last summer. He said, ‘I just don’t understand how they could let Scott go.’
Solskjaer, who now coaches Besiktas in Turkey, took over Manchester United in December 2018 after José Mourinho.
Solskjaer did really well at first, winning 14 out of his first 19 games, and got the job permanently just four months later. But then the team struggled to keep up that success, and after a rough start to the 2021-22 season, he was fired on November 21. McTominay, who came up through the United academy, was one of Solskjaer’s most reliable players at Old Trafford, but the Scotland international was deemed surplus to requirements last summer and he was sold Napoli in August 2024.
Solskjaer praised Scott and Fred as dependable players who consistently put in their best performance. He was astonished by the thought of parting with Scott. McTominay has enjoyed an impressive debut season in Serie A, netting 11 goals in 31 matches, playing a crucial role in Napoli’s chase for the championship. With just three games remaining, Antonio Conte’s squad maintains a three-point advantage over second-placed Inter Milan. Conte noted on Friday that he feels McTominay has evolved into a more well-rounded player since his days at United.
