Table of Content

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has issued a strong penalty to the South African Football Association (SAFA) for using an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, in a game against Lesotho on March 21, 2025. This game was part of the early rounds for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Consequently, the match in question has been forfeited by South Africa, and Lesotho is awarded a 3-0 scoreline. Additionally, SAFA must pay a fine of 10,000 Swiss francs, and Teboho Mokoena has received a warning for his involvement.

The individuals affected were informed about this decision today. They have ten days to request more information about the ruling, which will be made available on FIFA’s legal website. They can also appeal the decision regarding the match forfeiture to a higher committee within FIFA.
