The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kano has reported a serious car accident that occurred on Saturday morning at Wudil T-Junction along Maiduguri Road. This accident sadly resulted in the deaths of two people and left 20 others injured.
The incident happened around 9:20 am and involved a large truck, known as a DAF trailer, which was carrying animals, goods, and passengers on its way from Wudil Market to Lagos State.
According to the FRSC, early investigations indicated that the driver lost control of the truck because he was driving too fast as he approached the junction, which led to the crash. In total, 30 adult males were involved in the accident. Among them, 20 suffered various injuries, eight were unharmed, and sadly, two lost their lives.
The FRSC rescue reportedly arrived within about 10 minutes after they received an emergency call at around 9:25 am. They worked swiftly to help those injured and clear the area to allow traffic to flow normally again. The injured were taken to Wudil General Hospital for treatment.
Sector Commander, CC Idris Mohammed Lawal, raised concerns regarding what he termed the ongoing neglect of road safety regulations, particularly the hazardous practice of transporting passengers in trailers designed for goods and livestock.
He cautioned that “excessive speed and overloading are significant contributors to road accidents,” urging both drivers and transport operators to adhere strictly to traffic regulations. He also recommended that the public refrain from using such unsafe vehicles. The Command reiterated its dedication to ensuring road safety and decreasing fatalities throughout Kano State.
