Gombe NNPP guber candidate defects to PDP

Table of Content

Alhaji Khamisu Mailantarki, the governorship candidate representing the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Gombe State, has officially transitioned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accompanied by thousands of his supporters. This significant announcement was made during a political gathering in Gombe on Saturday, which served to welcome the newly joined members to the PDP.

He expressed unwavering confidence in the party led by Ibrahim Dankwambo, firmly stating that Dankwambo’s exceptional leadership was the motivating factor behind his decisive return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“We first embarked on our political journey with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and later took a pivotal step by becoming founding members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). As we navigated through the political landscape, we made the decision to join the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). However, after careful consideration, we have chosen to return to the PDP, finding reassurance in the visionary leadership of Dankwambo,” he declared passionately.

He did not hold back in criticizing the APC administration in the state, pointing out that it fails to address the needs of the poor and voicing deep concerns about the treatment of economically disadvantaged groups. He asserted that the APC government had engaged in the seizure of land and imposed a mandatory biometric attendance system on public workers.

“This policy has placed an unfair burden on those who struggle to reach their workplaces each day due to the difficult economic conditions. This is especially troubling given that some states have resorted to reducing the workweek to just three days,” he explained, emphasizing the struggles faced by ordinary citizens.

The PDP Chairman in the state, General Abner Kwaskebe (rtd), who officially welcomed Mailantarki into the fold by presenting him with a party membership card, reaffirmed the PDP’s deep-rooted presence in the state. “As we look ahead to 2027, we will do everything in our power to reclaim leadership in Gombe State,” he proclaimed with determination and hope. He expressed confidence that the party would embrace and welcome both longtime and returning members, demonstrating a strong commitment to fostering unity among them.)
