Harry Kane has become the fastest Bundesliga player to reach 50 goals, surpassing Erling Haaland’s previous record.
The Englishman scored a hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win against Augsburg on Friday, his sixth treble since moving to Germany last season. It also means Kane has now reached his half-century in just 43 Bundesliga games.

That is seven fewer than Haaland managed for Borussia Dortmund, despite the Norwegian hitting the ground running when he arrived in Germany in January 2020.

With 61 goals in 61 games across all competitions, Kane is looking to end his lengthy trophy drought for Bayern. Although they started the season strong, the Bavarians have already opened up an eight-point advantage at the summit after playing ahead of their rivals with their most recent victory.

The striker’s decision to move from Tottenham to Bayern put a halt, at least temporarily, to his chances of setting further Premier League goalscoring records. That means waiting for a potential return to England in order to get closer to Alan Shearer’s all-time record.

With 213 goals, Kane was ranked second on the list when he left the top division. For a large portion of history, Shearer’s haul has been the highest at 260.
Breaking Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in a single Bundesliga season was one of the records Kane missed in his rookie campaign. He achieved the goal in 2020–21, with the Englishman falling five short the previous season. But this season, he’s ready to try to defeat the Pole once more.

After being questioned during an international break, he returned to Bayern. In the recent victory over Greece, Ollie Watkins was favoured in attack, leaving Kane on the bench. A few days later, against the Republic of Ireland, he was added back to the starting lineup, but some have questioned whether he is being phased out at the international level.

Even though he is over 30, Kane has maintained that his performance is at its peak right now. “There’s a perception that you’re nearing the end of your life when you reach your thirties,” he remarked. However, I’m performing at my best level ever and feeling better than ever, so for me, it’s about relishing the present.
