Heavy Rain Wreaks Havoc In Oyo

Heavy rainfall in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, has displaced some residents due to significant damage across the city.

The intense rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, caused significant damage to houses and other structures, resulting in millions of naira in losses. Areas that were particularly affected include Alaaka, Igbonna, and neighborhoods near the Apete-Awotan-Akufo Road.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, contacted the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for assistance with those affected by the incident. He shared, “Many houses in our area were damaged by the heavy rain. I can point out at least five buildings that were impacted, and many people have lost their homes.”

He urged NEMA and SEMA to provide support to the victims, saying, “Their help would mean a lot to all of us.”

Additionally, it was reported that some equipment at the local radio station, Noble 107.1 FM, Ibadan, was damaged, causing it to go off the air. A staff member from the station, who also preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed that they had been unable to broadcast since the rain started.

He said, “I can’t comment on other radio stations, but I can definitely say that we’ve been off the air since yesterday.

“This has affected some of our gear at Noble 107.1 FM Ibadan. We’re on it and trying to fix the problems so we can get back to broadcasting.”
