Hudson-Odoi late strike condemns Man City to another defeat

Callum Hudson-Odoi netted a late goal in the second half, securing a vital Premier League win for Nottingham Forest against fellow Champions League contenders Manchester City at the City Ground.

With just seven minutes left in a largely uneventful match, Hudson-Odoi skillfully received a brilliant pass from Morgan Gibbs-White and managed to slot the ball past City goalkeeper Ederson at his near post, igniting jubilation among the home supporters.

This match was important for securing a spot in next season’s top European tournament. Even though City had more scoring opportunities in the first half, they found it difficult to break through Forest’s strong defense. A notable moment in the lackluster first half came when Nico Gonzalez’s powerful shot narrowly missed Matz Sels’ right post, and the second half showed little improvement despite Forest’s increased urgency. Just seconds into the second half, Nico Dominguez volleyed an Anthony Elanga cross directly at Ederson, and Hudson-Odoi had a low shot that was deflected onto the post by the Brazilian goalkeeper midway through the half.

Pep Guardiola brought on Kevin de Bruyne and Omar Marmoush with 20 minutes to go, but the closing stages saw little action in front of goal until Hudson-Odoi’s decisive strike. Guardiola and his squad have little to argue about regarding the result, marking their ninth league defeat in a challenging season. Tying their record for the most losses in a single campaign under his management. With this victory, third-placed Forest now holds a four-point advantage over City, who remain in fourth place but could be surpassed by Chelsea if the Blues secure a win against struggling Leicester City on Sunday.
