An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan and presided over by
Justice K.B. Olawoyin
has granted bail to Naomi Silekunola, an ex-wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi,
the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, and the proprietor of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat.
Recall that the three are facing trial following the death of at least 35 children during a funfair stampede that occurred at the school on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
An Oyo State Magistrate Court in Iyaganku had earlier ordered that the trio be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Facility.
The accused are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities following the tragedy that happened during the Christmas funfair.
The court had, January 7, fixed Monday for the ruling after Silekunola, Hamzat, and Fasasi’s lawyers argued their bail application.
The trio were granted bail after the judge listened to the arguments of their counsel.
The Judge granted them bail for N10 million and two sureties in like sum, who must submit landed documents within the jurisdiction of the court.
Other conditions are that the applicants must deposit their international passports with the court and they are barred from granting any form of interview during the pendency of the case.
