The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, on Wednesday called on frontline officers to be offensive in the fight against insecurity rather than remain only reactive.

The IGP made the call during an interactive session with officers and men of the Kano State Police Command at the Officers’ Mess in Kano.

Represented by the Deputy Inspector-General in-charge of Northwest, Sulaiman Muhammad-Abdul, Disu said when officers fire decisively, it would make bandits have a rethink.

He charged the officers to sustain momentum in the fight against insecurity.

“I bring you a direct and motivating communication sent from the Inspector-General of Police to the frontline officers of this command.

The IGP mandates me to tell you:

“I am proud of your outstanding performance this week! You have taken the battle straight to the criminals with bold actions, recording major successes through arrests and the neutralisation of bandits and their kingpins.

“The people are noticing our courage. Well done! It is far better to strike first and stay on the offensive than to remain only reactive.

“When bandits know we fire back decisively, they will think twice. Keep pushing hard, stay sharp, and sustain this momentum. You are the pride of the force. Thank you for your dedication and bravery,” the DIG quoted the IGP.

He said the inspector general of police had also unveiled six pillars to ensure modern internal security.

“The IGP has established six core administrative pillars that form the unyielding foundation of our modern internal security blueprint”, he said.

He listed the security blueprint to include Intelligence-Led and Technology-Driven Policing, Professionalism, Accountability, and Zero Tolerance, Community Policing and Public Trust, Inter-Agency Collaboration, Operational Standardization and Specialisation and Personnel Welfare and Capacity Building.

He charged the Kano command on the need to fully leverage data analytics, digital forensics, and centralized information frameworks to map out urban crime hotspots and track illicit financial flows that sustain gang activities.

Earlier, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, said the visit by the IGP underscores the force leadership’s commitment to close supervision, sound administration, and the welfare of personnel at the operational level.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the command to remain steadfast in carrying out its constitutional mandates.
