Arsenal advanced to the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, thanks to Gabriel Jesus’ hat-trick.

In the fourth minute, Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta side-footed in a long pass after pushing away Gunners defender Jakub Kiwior to latch onto a long ball and side-foot home.

However, Arsenal dominated the second half, and in the 54th minute, Jesus levelled after Martin Ødegaard produced a lovely through pass into the box. The Brazil international chipped the ball over Dean Henderson.
In the 73rd minute, Jesus scored his second goal when Bukayo Saka slipped the ball through for him to smash home. He sprinted onto a ball from Ødegaard behind Palace’s defensive line and fired past Henderson eight minutes later to complete his hat trick.

Very happy for [Jesus]. Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, told reporters, “He hasn’t scored in a long time. “To score the three types of goals and the many actions that he was involved in, it’s a great thing for the team that we can rely on a player with such quality.”

When he leaped high to head home past David Raya late in the game, former Arsenal player Eddie Nketiah gave Palace a response.

Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott’s goals helped holders Liverpool defeat Southampton 2-1 at St Mary’s Stadium in the other quarterfinal games, guaranteeing them a spot in the semi-finals.
After being provoked by Saints supporters for a reckless miss earlier in the match, Nunez scored in the 24th minute after jumping after a miskick by centre defender Jan Bednarek.

Elliott extended the Reds’ lead eight minutes later, firing a low, powerful shot off Cody Gakpo’s pass. Cameron Archer equalized for the home side in the 59th minute with a looping strike from just inside the box.
Tonali scored in the ninth minute at St James’ Park, when Nathan Collins’ attempted clearance fell at his feet, and he fired a rocket from 20 yards out, his first goal after returning from a 10-month ban for violating betting regulations in late August.

In the 69th minute, Bruno Guimarães sent a pass across the goal for Fabian Schär to tap in, doubling Newcastle’s advantage. Just before halftime, Tonali volleyed in Anthony Gordon’s cross from close to the penalty spot for his second goal.

The game was already well out of reach until Brentford’s Yoane Wissa pulled one back in injury time.

On Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur will play Manchester United in an attempt to secure the final semifinal spot.
