Kane penalty moves Bayern four points clear at top

Table of Content

Bundesliga top scorer Harry Kane scored a penalty to give Bayern Munich a 1-0 victory against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday in their first league game after the winter break, ensuring that they are four points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.

In the 68th minute, the England captain sent Gladbach keeper Moritz Nicolas the wrong way, breaking the deadlock and scoring his 15th league goal this season.

In the first half, Bayern controlled the game with almost 70% of the possession, but they had difficulties turning that into goals, although coming near through Thomas Müller and Leon Goretzka.
After Friday’s 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund, the Bavarians, who had several scoring opportunities following Kane’s penalty Bayern munich are leading the league with 39 points, while champions Leverkusen are in second position with 35.

It was one-way traffic from the start with Bayern having control of the game.

The home team were satisfied to stay back and soak up the pressure, making no effort on or towards goal in the first half, leaving Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with nothing to do on his return from a month-long injury absence.
Gladbach’ s Tim Kleindienst nearly scored four minutes after the restart, but his header at the far post went just over the bar.
However, Kane scored when he converted a penalty kick after a foul on Michael Olise in the box.

Neither Serge Gnabry nor Alphonso Davies were able to defeat Nicolas, although Vincent Kompany’s team should have scored again in the closing minutes.
After their first home game of the season, in which they failed to score, Gladbach fell to tenth position.
