Kidnapped NYSC ex-DG, Tsiga regains freedom from bandits

A former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major General Mahrazu Tsiga (retired), has been released from captivity.

After spending 22 days in the hands of his abductors, Tsiga was freed on Friday.

According to a report by Channels Television on Friday evening, he is currently receiving medical care at a hospital whose location remains undisclosed for security reasons.

Recall that gunmen led by notorious bandit kingpin, Babaro had taken the firmer NYSC DG, demanding N250m for his release.
However, the report said it was unclear if any money was paid for his freedom.
Government officials and security agencies, including the Katsina State Police Command were yet to comment on Tsiga’s freedom.

He was kidnapped by the bandits who stormed his residence in Tsifa Village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State on February 6, 2025.
During the attack, two persons sustained various degrees of injuries. One of the gunmen was mistakenly shot dead by a member of his gang.
