The club’s crucial Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund will be missed by striker Victor Boniface, as confirmed by Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso.
Speaking during yesterday’s pre-match press conference, Alonso expressed his disappointment over the Nigerian forward’s unavailability due to injury.
Reports indicate that Alonso expressed hope that the striker would return to training on January 2nd. Alonso said that it is quite unfortunate that he will the match against Dortmund. “We have to be patient so that he can recover and we can obtain a better understanding of the problem. The most important thing right now is our support for him.”

While acknowledging the setback, the coach emphasized the importance of exercising caution during Boniface’s recovery process.
Alonso stated that the striker would probably miss Leverkusen’s forthcoming home games against Mainz on January 14 and Borussia Mönchengladbach on January 18, despite early expectations of his return in the new year.

Alonso said, “Usually, it’s not enough for next week,” adding that the exact time frame for recovery is unknown. When asked about Boniface’s likely return date, Alonso referred to the club’s medical team.
“I do not know. The doctor should ask, but Boniface needs a little more time, I can tell you.”
The absence of Boniface is a huge loss for Leverkusen because the striker has been a crucial member of the team this season.

Alonso, on the other hand, expressed faith in the team’s capacity to adjust, noting that patience and support are essential for the forward’s full rehabilitation.
