A Tragic incident occured when four children were among around 50 people injured as a vehicle struck Liverpool supporters during the club’s Premier League trophy parade.

Authorities are questioning a 53-year-old man after a grey Ford Galaxy surged into the crowd of supporters in the busy city center on Monday evening, turning a day of joy for thousands of football fans into one of fear.
At least 47 people, including four children, were hurt when the people-carrier crashed into numerous fans shortly after 6pm.

Witnesses reported hearing a series of “pop, pop, pop” sounds as individuals were thrown off the hood of the car.
Firefighters successfully freed four individuals, including a child, who had become trapped under the vehicle.

Emergency services, including police cars, ambulances, fire engines, paramedics from St John Ambulance, and an air ambulance, quickly arrived at the scene of the incident on Water Street, while officers held back bystanders who tried to reach the suspect’s vehicle.
It was noted that medics treated 20 patients at the scene for minor injuries,
while an additional 27 were taken to Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Arrowe Park Hospital, and Aintree University Hospital.

Among those hospitalized, two individuals, including one child, sustained serious injuries.

Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims remarked that the “horrific incident” is not being treated as terrorism following the arrest of a 53-year-old man at the scene.
The police confirmed that the suspect was the driver of the vehicle, described as white, British, and from the Liverpool area.

Footage shared on social media seemed to show the vehicle speeding as it veered into pedestrians on both sides of the crowded street.

Harry Rashid, who was at the parade with his wife and two daughters, saw the vehicle moving southward.

“This grey people carrier suddenly showed up from the right and crashed into everyone next to us,” he said.

“It happened so fast. At first, we just heard the disturbing pop, pop, pop of people being thrown off the car’s hood.”

He described how those nearby started trying to break the car windows when the driver hesitated, but then he sped up again.

“My daughter started screaming, and there were people lying on the ground. I saw individuals down there, some were unconscious. It was truly terrifying.”

A witness, Les Winsper, gave a detailed description of how the incident unfolded right in front of him.

He mentioned: “People started banging on the (car) windows.

“Then they broke the windows, which made him freak out and speed up.

He then hit someone, sending that person into the air, and they smashed through the others.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

Another person, who was walking with friends, said he saw a car “speeding” and hitting people.

Mike Maddra said that the “car turned left, went up on the sidewalk, came towards us, and rushed at the buildings.”

He said, “we got out of the way as it was speeding up.”
Mr. Maddra thought he saw two people get hit and added, “it looked like it was on purpose.”

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper are being updated about what’s happening in the city.

Sir Keir said he talked to the Mayor of Liverpool about the situation, saying: “Everyone, especially kids, should be able to celebrate their heroes without being scared.”

“The city has a strong and proud history of coming together during tough times.”

“Liverpool is united, and the whole country stands with Liverpool.”

Merseyside Police said: “We got a call just after 6 PM today (Monday, May 26) about a car hitting several people on Water Street.
“The car stopped at the scene, and a man has been arrested.”

A later update said: “We can confirm that the person arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.”

Detailed investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the crash. Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell described the circulating videos online as “disturbing” and urged the public to refrain from speculating about the incident.

During a press conference on Monday night, Assistant Chief Constable Jennifer Sims stated: “I understand that the public will be concerned about what occurred tonight. We think this is an isolated incident, and we are not searching for any other suspects connected to it.”

She has verified that the event is not currently being treated as terrorism; nonetheless, the police department is receiving assistance from counter-terrorism units while detectives strive to understand the reasons behind the motorist’s actions towards the local community.

In their statement, Liverpool FC noted: “We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street, which took place towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.”

Local rivals Everton also shared their sympathies, stating: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this serious incident in our city.”

Council leader Liam Robinson commented that the occurrences have “cast a very dark shadow over what had been a joyful day.”

The parade took place on Bank Holiday Monday to celebrate Liverpool’s second Premier League title victory, attracting thousands of supporters.

The route stretched 10 miles from Allerton Maze to Liverpool City Centre and lasted about five hours.

As a result, several roads, including Brunswick Street, Water Street, and James Street, were closed.

Liverpool players, including Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah, rode on an open-top bus that traveled through Liverpool, surrounded by flares, banners, and a sea of red.
