Liverpool’s forward Mohamed Salah expressed his surprise at the influence Arne Slot has had on the team following Jurgen Klopp’s departure.
Klopp left Liverpool after the 2023/24 season, paving the way for Slot’s arrival from Feyenoord in the summer.
The Dutch coach won the premier league in his first season by beating Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at the end of April. In a recent chat with France Football, Salah, who was honored as the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year, confessed that Slot’s quick influence took him by surprise. ‘I never thought we would find success this fast. Who would have guessed such a swift change? I think nobody did.
During preseason, Arne came up to me and requested that I lead by example. I assured him that I always give my best effort, but it’s just who I am. He shared his expectations for my performance in the game, highlighting the significance of my running, which I truly valued.
Salah, who scored 28 goals in the Premier League this season, talked about how different Slot is from Klopp. He said, ‘Arne is straightforward and brought back our competitive spirit, while with Jürgen, we got a bit too comfortable at the end.
Arne and his team are more willing to talk and share feelings, which really helped me play better. Plus, it helped us win.’ Liverpool will play against Arsenal on Sunday at Anfield.
