Manchester City stands convicted on 114 of 115 charges leveled by the Premier League regarding alleged financial misconduct, according to The Athletic’s reporting.
An impartial commission delivered this verdict after meticulously reviewing the club’s financial records spanning 2009 to 2018.
According to current information, City was found guilty on 114 charges, with merely one charge being dismissed.
The Premier League initiated proceedings against City in February 2023, concluding a four-year investigation into claimed breaches of its financial regulations.
City has persistently refuted these allegations, asserting its full compliance with all Premier League standards.
Following this determination, a City representative issued a statement to The Athletic emphasizing that Premier League proceedings continue with multiple critical phases still outstanding.
“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.
“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator, free from partisan influence,” the representative declared.
The organization is poised to vigorously challenge the commission’s ruling, refusing to accept defeat without exhausting every available avenue.
This case represents one of the Premier League’s most exhaustive disciplinary investigations to date, due to how long it has lasted.
The charges encompass a period when City dominated English football, securing multiple Premier League titles and prestigious trophies.
Crucially, the commission’s decision does not prescribe City’s punishment—the actual sanctions will be determined through a separate process and could be substantially altered depending on whether City pursues an appeal and the outcome of that challenge.
According to available information, the forthcoming phase will focus on interpreting the commission’s findings and their implications.
City is making clear that their fight against these charges is far from over despite the commission’s adverse ruling, and they remain committed to pursuing the appeal process to contest whether this decision will ultimately prevail.
