Manchester United signs Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig for €85m

Table of Content

Manchester United has completed the signing of striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig on a five-year deal, pending registration, as the club announced on Saturday.

According to reports, the transfer fee is €85 million (which is around $98.8 million). This amount also includes bonuses that can be earned based on performance. One source mentioned that Leipzig believes these bonuses can be achieved. The deal also has a sell-on clause, which means they can earn part of any money if the player is sold again in the future. Plus, there is talk of a friendly match being planned between the two clubs later on.

“The legacy of Manchester United is truly one-of-a-kind, but what excites me the most is what lies ahead,” Sesko stated.

“When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.

“From the moment I stepped in, I sensed the positive energy and family-like environment that the club has fostered. It is undoubtedly the ideal place for me to realize my full potential and achieve all my aspirations.

“I am eager to learn from Ruben [Amorim] and connecting with my teammates to attain the success that we all believe we can achieve together.”
United successfully outmaneuvered competition from Newcastle United to secure the highly coveted Slovenia international.

Newcastle Utd made several bids for Sesko, but he clearly expressed his desire to join Old Trafford.

Sesko’s signing follows the arrival of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, bringing United’s summer spending over the £200m mark. He seems ready to lead the charge in Ruben Amorim’s new-look attacking setup.

Last season, the striker scored 21 goals in 45 games for Leipzig in all competitions. Sesko formerly played for RB Salzburg before moving to Germany in 2023.
