Mason Mount is diligently working towards making his return to the England national soccer team after engaging in a constructive dialogue with their new manager, Thomas Tuchel. This conversation has given the current Manchester united player hope as he gets ready for the World Cup. Mount is focused on having a productive season with Manchester United, and while he’s encountered challenges, particularly with injuries since his transfer from Chelsea to Manchester United in 2023 for £60 million (about $79.9 million), he is determined to overcome these obstacles.
One of his biggest motivations is his desire to wear the England jersey again, something he hasn’t done since 2022. His connection with Tuchel, who has a strong relationship with him from their time together at Chelsea, has also inspired him as the coach reached out to rekindle their bond.
Mount said, “He [Tuchel] reached out to me. He mentioned that he was contacting many players and wanted to reconnect.” Although he thought Tuchel might have reached out to several players, he valued the opportunity to meet him again and talk about his future. Mount described Tuchel as “full of energy” and “incredibly enthusiastic” about his new role.
Mount was an important part of Gareth Southgate’s England team during the Euro 2020 tournament, but he has not played in international matches since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to ongoing injuries. At 26, Mount understands the importance of his past achievements with Tuchel, including their Champions League win at Chelsea.
Even though Tuchel did not promise Mount a spot on the national team, the midfielder is still determined to secure his place for the 2026 World Cup, supported by a strong season at Manchester United. He recognized the different challenges between club and international football, saying, “The competition for places and the number of players he can select from is quite distinct from club football.”
He noted that there are no guarantees, even though you played for me, regardless of past involvement with the team. However, this serves as a strong motivator to give your best for the team. Engaging in a conversation with him proved to be beneficial for me, so it was really good to speak with him. He looked very excited.
“As a player, you always want to play for your country and that’s such a big honour to play for your country.
“Every chance you get to wear that jersey is special. I understand how important it is to play for your country. I’d be excited to have that chance again, but right now, my primary focus is on club football.
