Mrs Soludo advocates youth character formation through sports

Dr. Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State governor says sports remain a powerful tool for character and feel part of their community.

She said this during the opening of the second “Nonye Soludo Volleyball Championship” on Wednesday in Awka. This exciting event started on December 17 and will culminate in a grand finale on December 20.

Dr. Soludo explained that the primary objective of this tournament is to support the development of young people, encourage teamwork, and promote healthy competition through sports.

She highlighted that the championship is part of a broader initiative to engage youth positively, help them discover their talents, and promote values like discipline and unity among them.

“This competition is also a great opportunity for future volleyball stars to shine,” she said.

Dr. Soludo urged the youth to take the tournament seriously, noting that sports can greatly help in developing character and promoting inclusion in society.

She also expressed gratitude to the organizers, coaches, and teams for their efforts in making the event possible. Furthermore, she encouraged the athletes to demonstrate sportsmanship and play fairly throughout the competition.

The Chairman of the Anambra Sports Development Commission, Mr. Patrick Onyedum, praised a recent volleyball championship, calling it an excellent initiative that supports the state government’s goal of empowering young people through sports.

He expressed his hope that this event would help volleyball grow both within the state and beyond.

During his speech, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, noted that 15 teams from the 21 local government areas were taking part in the championship.

The event attracted sports leaders, youth representatives, volleyball fans, and supporters, as teams from all over Anambra vied for trophies in the exciting four-day tournament.(NAN)
