The Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, has passed away at 86 years old.

The monarch, who ascended the throne in 2009, was a retired public servant who spent 37 years in service, including serving as a commissioner in the civil service commission.

He is the 19th ruler of Epe also known as Eko-Epe

Oba Adewale was also known as a staunch advocate for peace.

The palace has not yet shared a statement about the king’s passing, but he will be buried today (Saturday) according to Islamic rites.

The late monarch had a good relationship built on respect. There is little discrimination among our people. Every year, after the Ileya festival, we celebrate Kayo Kayo together, and many people come out to join us. Our young people enjoy the festival and mix freely during it. We also take part in their Ebi and masquerade festival to show our support. There is peace among us without any hard feelings. Our main focus is on development and finding ways to draw more investors to Epe due to its proximity to Lagos. I believe we will achieve great things for our town together. I should also mention that I have Ijebu royal blood, which means we are connected with each other,” the late king had explained.

The late king, recognized for his commitment to the growth of Epe Kingdom He was admired for his wisdom, leadership, and dedication to public service. Oba Adewale was a fervent supporter of peace and continually highlighted the significance of unity among the Yoruba people living in Epe. It was remembered that the late Oba Adewale as a monarch also advocated for peace and mutual respect among the residents of Epe in both Lagos and Ogun State.
