In establishing the Lagelu and District Society, a recently established district, the National President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chief Davidson Alaribe FCA, urged the organization’s founding leaders to emphasize mentoring as a crucial tactic to draw in and keep new members.

Alaribe made this plea during his remarks prior to Chief Mrs. Omokemi Oladipo FCA being sworn in as the chairperson of ICAN-Lagelu and District Society and other pioneer executive committee members.

To broaden ICAN’s outreach and influence in the southwest region of Nigeria, the ICAN national president also took advantage of the event to formally launch the Lagelu District and Society as the organization’s 74th geographical district.

Many notable figures from the accounting and business sectors attended the Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo FCA’s inauguration and investiture, which took place over the weekend in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo state.

In his remarks, the ICAN president, who congratulated the recently appointed chairman of the Institute’s Lagelu District, underlined the importance of mentoring in helping young accountants navigate the challenges of the accounting field and guide them through their career paths.

Alaribe emphasised that the Lagelu District leadership must maintain high standards of professionalism, ethical behaviour, and practice in the performance of their duties. She also urged Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo to actively participate in education and mentorship programs that will not only help aspiring accountants advance their careers but also build a long-term pool of qualified professionals for the future.

Alaribe emphasised that the Lagelu District leadership must maintain high standards of professionalism, responsible conduct, and practice in the performance of their duties. She also urged Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo to actively participate in education and mentorship programs that will not only help aspiring accountants advance their careers but also build a limitless supply of skilled experts for the future.

He called on Lagelu District’s pioneer executive members and other members to work together and assist Chief Mrs. Oladipo in her new role and to make sure the district’s ICAN brand stays coherent and united without any tendencies of discord.

In his brief remarks, the day’s chairman, Mr Abdulrahaman Yinusa (FCA), Group Managing Director/CEO of Oodua Investment Company Limited, congratulated the recently sworn-in Lagelu District executive committee and promised that his organisation would continue to play its crucial role as a partner in progress to provide the necessary support, which includes an advisory role for the new district as well as the National Institute.

Dr. Oyebade Oyedepo, one of the Institute’s leaders, highlighted various types of barriers accountants encounter in the discharge of their duties, both internal and external, as well as the impacts of such barriers, while also providing key guides to preventing and mitigating such barriers in his paper presentation titled “Breaking Barriers; Expanding Frontiers.”

She emphasised that her leadership would continue to safeguard the integrity of the profession while leading by example in adhering to the ethical criteria laid down by ICAN and ensuring that members of the district uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their activities.

Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo, on the other hand, attributed her professional success to her husband, Chief Olabode Oladipo, the Bobadara of Osooro kingdom, Ikale, Ondo state, for believing in her dream and providing all of the necessary support and motivation to make it a reality, both professionally and at home as wife and mother.

Due to her immense influence and numerous acts of selflessness for the people of Osooro kingdom and Ikale in general, the monarch declared Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo is to be appointed as a member of the Oba in-council of Osooro kingdom and promised to support her in all of her future undertakings.
