One arrested following murder of (POS) operator by mob in Adamawa

The police in Adamawa state have begun an investigation after the unfortunate death of a Point of Sale (POS) operator, Abbas Yuguda, who was assaulted by a mob in the Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area on Saturday, March 22. One person, believed to be linked to the violent group, is now in police custody and is said to be aiding the investigation into the matter.

A spokesperson for the command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, reported that officers from the Adamawa Command intervened just in time to save a man named Umar SNU from an impending mob attack. Umar is suspected of being involved in the brutal assault on a POS operator. In a press release issued on Monday morning, the Adamawa State Police Command announced that it has launched an investigation into the violent killing of 35-year-old POS operator Abbas Yuguda, who was assaulted in the Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area.

Nguroje reported that the victim was returning home after finishing work at his business. According to the police, “A group of individuals armed with weapons attacked him, causing serious injuries to his head and leaving him in a pool of blood.” The police further stated that officers from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Mayo Belwa quickly arrived at the scene and transported the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival while receiving treatment.

Following the incident, a suspect identified as Umar SNU found himself chased by an angry mob of young individuals. He endured violent confrontations until law enforcement intervened to rescue him. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment and is now helping the authorities with their investigation, the police explained.
