A member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Denty Laven, has been abducted by yet to identified gunmen.

Laven was kidnapped from his home his home in Dong area of Jos North Local Government Area.

Laven, who represents the Pankshin South Constituency, was taken from his residence by gunmen, according to reports.

The kidnapping comes amid ongoing security concerns in the state.

In a recent interview, Stanley Kavwam, the Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Middle Belt Forum, highlighted the severity of the crisis, stating that over 500 people have been killed in Mangu Local Government Area in the last two years.

Kavwam, speaking to News Central TV, claimed that the attacks, which he attributed to Fulani herdsmen, have resulted in the displacement of 164 communities, which have since been occupied and renamed by the attackers.

He also expressed frustration over what he described as a lack of media coverage of the violence in the Middle Belt region.

He contrasted the government’s response to the killings with its swift military action against separatist movements in the South East, which he said were “crushed” by security forces.

Calling the killings a “jihadist agenda” driven by the indoctrination of young people, Kavwam stressed the need for proper education as a long-term solution to the violence.
