The Anambra State Police have arrested two people connected to the kidnapping and murder of a female banker in Onitsha. The victim, named Ifeoma, was kidnapped on January 13, 2025.
Despite her family’s unwavering attempts and the payment of a ransom of N14 million for her release, she was brutally murdered. This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for improved security measures in the region.
The victim was kidnapped in Onitsha and held for several days before her captors contacted her family with a ransom demand.
Following the payment of the ransom, the victim remained in captivity until her lifeless body was discovered along Nnobi Road, with her eyes bound. Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, announced that security personnel, after conducting thorough investigations, successfully identified and located two suspects involved in the case: Monday Egbe, 32, and Kenneth Nnoga, 28. The suspects were traced to their hideout in a neighboring state.
Ikenga mentioned that the people arrested on May 28, 2025, are currently being questioned to understand how the gang operates and to aid in the arrest of other members.
The statement said: “Following the Anambra State Police Command’s commitment to pursuing cases until every suspect is caught and to prevent more criminal activities in the state, two people were arrested on May 28, 2025.
“The two suspects are charged with being involved in the kidnapping and murder of a female bank manager after her family paid a ransom of N14 million in Onitsha.
Operative through diligent investigations, tracked the suspects, Monday Egbe, 32, and Kenneth Nnoga, 28, to their criminal hideout in a neighbouring state. “The tragic incident occurred on January 13, 2025, when the victim’s lifeless body was found on Nnobi Road, her eyes tied, after her family had paid the N14 million ransom. “The suspects are currently being interrogated to gather more information about the gang’s operations and to help in capturing other members.”
According to Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ikioye Orutugu, has promised that the command will continue its efforts to protect the lives and property of the people in Anambra and its residents, ensuring that all cases are thoroughly investigated and justice is served.
