The police in Delta State have launched an investigation following the murder of a site engineer named Chigozie Udalor by his employees after they found out he had a significant amount of money in his bank account.

According to a statement from the police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, on December 12, 2024, a man named Hyacinth Nnalue reported to the Akwu-kwu Igbo division that his cousin, Chigozie Udalor, had been missing since December 10, 2024. Nnalue mentioned that Chigozie was managing his fish pond at the Bod camp in the Akwukwu Igbo community.

Edafe detailed that upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) launched an investigation and later referred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The state Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, instructed DPO Ekpan, CSP Aliyu Shaba, to carry out a thorough investigation. The DPO then tasked officers with an intelligence-led inquiry, leading to the arrest of David Tacho on March 31, 2025. Tacho had tried to access funds from the victim’s account using his mobile device. Furthermore, Daniel Orshio was arrested for his involvement in the murder.

The investigation revealed that David Tacho is the sibling of Victor Tacho, who, along with Pius Daniel (both of whom are currently on the run) and Daniel Orshio, conspired to murder the victim. At present, Daniel Orshio and David Tacho are in police custody. The preliminary findings indicated that all four suspects were employed by the victim, a site engineer. They discovered he had funds in his Moniepoint account, which led them to devise a plan against him. They struck him on the head with a hammer, restrained him, and buried him in a shallow grave at the construction site. The victim’s remains have been exhumed and awaiting autopsy, while authorities continue to search for the other two suspects, according to Edafe.
