The Blues will have their work cut out for them on Sunday

Paris Saint-Germain secured a commanding 4-0 victory against Real Madrid on Wednesday, earning their place in the Club World Cup final.

Luis Enrique’s European champions showcased their remarkable abilities, which stood in stark contrast to their opponents, who suffered their most significant defeat of the 2024-25 season. The Parisians took control early, building a substantial lead within the first 25 minutes, as Fabian Ruiz netted two goals alongside Ousmane Dembele’s breakaway goal, ultimately concluding the match with a fourth goal late in the game from Goncalo Ramos.

Madrid, having made several changes due to injuries and suspensions, struggled to find their rhythm. Their defense was weaker without players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, and PSG’s relentless pressure immediately penetrated through Real Madrid defense. PSG will face Chelsea in the final on Sunday, and the Blues may not feel optimistic after witnessing such a dominant display from the Parisians.

Following a delayed start, Enrique’s squad took an early lead. The Spaniards fell behind within just six minutes when Raul Asencio lost possession to Dembele, who was thwarted by Thibaut Courtois, allowing Ruiz to capitalize on the rebound and score the opening goal.

They swiftly extended their lead shortly thereafter, even with the equally challenging circumstances. On this occasion, it was Antonio Rudiger who made a mistake while trying to pass, missing the ball entirely, which allowed Dembele a clear one-on-one opportunity. He acted without delay, skillfully directing his shot into the bottom left corner.

A well-organized team effort soon sent Achraf Hakimi racing down the right side. His cross to Ruiz was perfectly placed, letting the Spaniard score his second goal of the game, which confirmed PSG progression to the club world cup final with less than 25 minutes gone.

As the hydration break approached, Real found themselves adrift.

They wrapped up the first half with just 23% possession, leaving their fans in white with hardly anything to cheer for during that time.

Feeling a bit down, Real made their way to the locker rooms at halftime. PSG was clearly in control of the match.

The Spaniards did show some signs of improvement in the second half, but the quick response they so desperately needed just didn’t materialize. Gonzalo Garcia, who had been their star player up until now, was noticeably missing this time, overshadowed by Kylian Mbappe for the first time. However, the Frenchman also struggled to make any sort of impact in the match.

With less than an hour gone, Enrique was already thinking about the final on Sunday as he brought on substitutes Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, giving them a break from an extra 30 minutes of running in the sweltering New Jersey heat.

As the match neared its end, Real Madrid started to find their rhythm and seemed to be the stronger side after Enrique’s substitutions, but they still had a tough time creating any real chances.

Their energy dipped as the clock wound down, and the chances of a comeback faded with every passing second.

The skilled midfielder Luka Modric took to the field for what turned out to be his last game with Real Madrid – a disappointing end to an amazing 13-year journey with the club.

Ramos capped off a quick PSG counter-attack, making the score four in the final moments. The referee decided not to add any injury time, and there were no objections – Real faced a heavy defeat.

With Sunday approaching, Chelsea needs to deliver an outstanding performance to stop PSG from winning their fifth major trophy of the season.
