Six arrested over killing of two police officers in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended at least six individuals in connection with the tragic murder of two police officers in Kolere village, situated within the Fune Local Government Area of the state. The announcement was made by the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Operations, DCP Abdu Abubakar Ozo, during a press briefing following a routine meeting of the State Security Council, chaired by the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Idi Barde Guban.

DCP Ozo outlined that the slain officers, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ali Pindar, aged 45, and DSP Jantuku Philibus, aged 50, were brutally killed after being overpowered by a notorious group of high-profile gang leaders during a recent operation aimed at curbing rising criminal activities in the region. The confrontation unfolded as the officers attempted to apprehend the suspects, who are believed to be involved in a series of violent crimes, including armed robbery and kidnapping.

During the briefing, DCP Ozo confirmed that between five to six suspects, identified as persons of interest connected to the officers’ deaths, have been detained. These individuals are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department for rigorous questioning. He indicated that evidence gathered during the investigation suggests that the killings were premeditated and orchestrated by an organized gang operating in the area.

Also, DCP Ozo emphasized that the state police command has mobilized extra personnel to enhance security measures in Kolere and its surrounding communities. They will continue searching for other suspects involved in this heinous act, as well as implementing strategies to prevent further violence and restore peace in the region. The commitment to bring all those responsible for this tragedy to justice remains a top priority for the police command.
