Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa midfielder, Jayden Adams, has died. He was 25 years old. Jayden had the privilege of representing South Africa in the World Cup. His death was announced by Gayton McKenzie, the minister of sport, arts, and culture in South Africa.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened by the news of Jayden Adams’ passing at just 25 years old,” McKenzie shared on social media. “South African football has lost one of its brightest young talents. Our nation mourns alongside his family, teammates, and the many fans who admired him.”

Jayden played in South Africa’s first match of the World Cup against the Czech Republic, where he was substituted at halftime. McKenzie pointed out that this match took place just hours after Jayden learned about his grandmother’s passing.

Before joining Mamelodi Sundowns last year, Jayden had several successful seasons with Stellenbosch, helping his team win the CAF Champions League this year.
