Security personnel have established a strong presence around the Lagos State House of Assembly in Alausa, Ikeja, as lawmakers prepare for an emergency plenary session on Monday, March 3, 2025, amidst a tense atmosphere. Starting at 7 am, the already significant security detail, which had been in place for about two weeks, was further reinforced in anticipation of a potential leadership change within the Lagos House. Reports indicate that the newly elected Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, is likely to resign to facilitate the selection of a new speaker in line with the zoning arrangement for candidates from the western zone.
Additionally, members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and armed police officers have taken up strategic positions around the area, ensuring that all visitors, including staff, undergo thorough searches before entering the complex. One staff member, who requested anonymity, shared with Vanguard, “The atmosphere in the Assembly this morning is very tense with heavy security present. It was challenging for staff to enter; it took me over an hour to gain access to the premises.”
After several weeks of political negotiations and interventions, President Bola Tinubu, along with senior leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), successfully arrived at a resolution concerning the ongoing crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly over the weekend
