Tijani Babangida, the star of Ajax Amsterdam FC and a former winger for the Super Eagles, remembered with remorse a fatal accident he was engaged in on the Kaduna-Zaria Road on May 9.

His younger brother, Ibrahim, and son, Fadil, were killed in the tragic accident, and he, his wife, and maid were seriously injured.

The Super Eagles star recalled the experience in a 14-minute video documentary posted on Ajax International’s website on Thursday, calling it a nightmare.

He remarked, “When you suddenly lose your entire family, it is difficult to move on and forget about it.”

Currently in the Netherlands, Babangida stated that he relocated to the European nation in order to obtain proper medical care for himself and his spouse.

According to him, losing his brother—an ex-international who played for Nigeria on the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning squad and frequently accompanied him on trips—was extremely traumatic.

Babangida stated in the heartbreaking documentary that he could not stand to see pictures and videos of his son, and that his wife finds it difficult to recall the boy’s name or “anything” about him.

“This is a nightmare,” he remarked. I anticipate that I will be dealing with this trauma for the remainder of my life. When your entire family is suddenly gone, it is difficult to go on and forget about it.

Since the terrible incident I have been unable to discuss about it, this is the first time I have discussed the accident. Seeing pictures and videos of my son makes me sick. For my wife, it is much more difficult. She is a well-known actress in the northern region of Nigeria. We were married for a year, had a baby, and then all of a sudden he was gone.

“As well as my brother, who always goes with me on trips.” My injuries were limited to my knees and legs. I was required to help my wife.

My wife and I came here with the purpose of receiving appropriate medical care. It is difficult.

I finally told her that our child was in the car when the tragedy happened, after spending three months in the Netherlands.

She began by asking him what his name was. She is unable to recall any details about him. She survived because of her strength.

Babangida and Louis Van Gaal, his former coach, were seen meeting on the video.

He was grateful for the support he received throughout the difficult time from his coach and former teammates.
